Volunteer Opportunities

Parent Involvement

All students do better academically, socially and emotionally when the school and family work together.  As such we welcome parent involvement at Nevada Avenue Elementary.  We also understand that due to the various demands in your lives involvement with the school may look differently for each family.  Please take a moment to look at some of the ways you may get involved.  These are ideas and not the only ways.  We look forward to seeing you and getting to know all of our families!

Volunteer and Involvement Opportunities

The various talents of our parents, grandparents, and community members contribute to the total school by assisting teachers in the classrooms, tutoring individual children, and by helping student groups.  Listed below are a few volunteer opportunities:

School Site Council and English Language Advisory Council

Teachers, administrators, parents and community members volunteer their time to discuss, advise, and implement programs to improve and enhance the quality of our school.  Our Councils meet monthly.  This year, we will be holding an orientation at the end of August.  The date and time are listed on the school calendar.  We hope to see many of you there!

P.A.T.S. (Parents Assisting Teachers and Students)

This group meets weekly to assist teachers with collating, gluing, cutting, organizing and preparing materials.  This is a valuable service to our teachers as it helps them spend more time planning, collaborating, and working with our students.  See our Parent Center Director if you would like to be involved in this program.

Volunteering in the Classroom

Our teachers are always looking for available parents to come and help out in the classroom.  All classroom volunteers must complete a District Volunteer Application.  It can be completed online or a hard copy may be obtained from the school office.  Per District Policy all individuals having contact with students must present the school with Tuberculosis (TB) clearance prior to the school's submission of their name to the District.  All TB Clearances must be within six (6) months prior to the individual starting volunteer service.

District Policy and State statutes require that persons volunteering in a school for more than 16 hours per week have Background Clearance.  Fingerprinting must be conducted through LAUSD.  Applicants requiring fingerprinting must work with the school to schedule an appointment.
