Dress Code

Appropriate Attire

At Nevada Avenue Elementary School we follow the LAUSD Policy regarding Students Dress.  The Policy states:

All students shall be required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, health, neatness, safety, and suitability of clothing and appearance for school activities.  In every case, the dress and grooming of the student shall not: 

  • Cause actual distraction from or disturbance in any school activity or actually interfere with the participation of a student in any school activity.
  • Create a hazard to the safety of him/herself or others.
  • Create a health hazard.

Clothing, jewelry, and personal items, such as backpacks and book bags, with language or images that are vulgar, sexually suggestive, discriminatory, obscene, libelous, contain threats, or that promote illegal or violent content such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia are prohibited.

To maintain an effective learning environment, to promote health and safety of the students, and keep the focus of the classroom on learning the following Dress Code Policy shall be in effect to Nevada Avenue Elementary School. 

Please be sure your child wears shoes with the toes and heels covered.  In order to minimize injuries, no sandals or flip flops are allowed.  This will keep your child's fee safe from other little feet.

Since we have many different activities on the playground and in class, we ask that you dress your child in clothes which are comfortable and that you are not concerned about being soiled in case of an accident.

Lost and Found


Please put your child's name on all removable clothing.  If an article is lost and cannot be found in the classrooms, you may check our Lost and Found located right inside the blue gate at the front of the school.  The Lost and Found will contain all items clothing that students have forgotten at various locations on campus.  When an item of clothing is found, it will be placed on one of the racks.  Parents and students are allowed to come on campus after school to look for their child's lots items of clothing.  Please visit the Lost and Found rack any time you are on campus for a school event. 

At least twice (sometimes more often) a year, we will be donating all unclaimed items of clothing to a local charity.
